How Did This Accident Occur?
A vehicle can break down for all kinds of reasons. Sometimes, it’s entirely foreseeable and avoidable, such as when a driver runs out of gas or has been putting off vital repairs for too long. Other times, it can be completely out of the blue. It may even trace back to a defect that began at the manufacturing plant. What’s important is that investigators are able to make those distinctions, which is frankly not something I trust authorities to do on their own.
It takes specialized training and tools and a thorough examination to rule out potential vehicle defects. Not a lot of departments prioritize accident reconstruction highly enough to provide those resources. So, even if an officer wanted to inspect a vehicle properly, they likely wouldn’t be able to. They can, however, bring in independent accident reconstructionists to help pick up the slack. If they’ve done so here, that would be good news. If not, though, important information might slip through the cracks.
Did anyone see the vehicle that was broken down prior to the accident? Let me know in the comments if there are any important details I’m missing.
