Accident Report

Reeves County, TX — April 25, 2026, Anthony Michael Zinn was killed in a tow truck accident at about 9 p.m. on Interstate 20 east of Toyah.

Authorities said a 2023 International tow truck was heading west near mile marker 26 when it swerved into the left lane after the driver saw smoke on the road ahead. It apparently overcorrected and rolled over, causing its cargo to hit the 2019 Freightliner semi-truck traveling behind it.

Tow truck driver Anthony Michael Zinn, 38, of Duncan, OK died after being transported to an Odessa hospital, according to authorities.

The Freightliner driver suffered minor injuries in the crash, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Reeves County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Initial reports indicate a tow truck overturned after it swerved because of smoke in the road. Did that happen because the truck was going too fast? Or because its cargo was not loaded properly? Or because it blew a tire or had an issue with its steering mechanism? I don’t claim that I know the answers to these questions, but I do know that the only way to sort out what happened on Interstate 20 near Toyah is to complete a full investigation.

Authorities should keep my questions in mind as they gather evidence about the crash, from witness statements, data from the trucks and any available video footage of the accident. Cell phone records could show if the driver was distracted at the time of the crash, but it likely will take a qualified expert to check the tow truck for signs of a mechanical problem. Law enforcement agencies usually don’t have the time or training for such examinations, in my experience.

The dump truck driver’s family deserves to know as much as possible about this crash.
