Accident Report
May 7, 2026, Andrew Pryslopski and one other were injured following a truck accident at 6:00 a.m. along the NY State Thruway.
According to initial details about the accident, it happened in a construction zone along the eastbound lanes of the Thruway. Authorities say that 48-year-old Andrew Pryslopski was in a pickup in the work zone. A tractor-trailer passing through the area reportedly crashed through the construction zone, then hit the pickup.
As a result of the crash, Andrew Pryslopski and the semi-truck driver had reportedly non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, authorities say they suspect speed was a factor in the accident. Additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Authorities said that unsafe speed was a factor here, but I have to wonder if there was more going on. When I see truck drivers crash into work zones, evidence usually shows they were distracted—usually due to a cellphone. Have authorities worked to pull cellphone and vehicle data?
This can shine a light on vital details. Obviously, cellphone data can show if the driver was texting, on a call, or using any apps or surfacing the web at the time of the crash. Vehicle data could show the truck’s speeds leading up to the crash as well as braking and steering inputs. This could help determine when exactly the truck driver reacted and if unsafe speeds really were involved.
It might surprise folks just how often I’ve seen authorities overlook this sort of vital evidence. If they feel they can move forward with citations or charges without that evidence, they may just move on. For victims and families, though, that evidence can be necessary for telling their side of the story. So if authorities have worked to pull this data, that’s good. If that will take more thorough independent investigations, though, that wouldn’t be unusual.
Did anyone see the events leading up to this crash? Do you agree speed was involved, or do you think something else went wrong? Let me know in the comments.
