Edinburg, TX — July 10, 2023, Amilcar Gomez was killed due to an alleged intoxicated driving accident at around 11:00 p.m. along Tower Road.
According to information released by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident took place in the area of the Tower Road and South Trail Drive intersection.
Authorities said that 36-year-old Amilcar Gomez was on a bicycle traveling along the side of Tower Road. While doing so, police allege that a Chevy Tahoe hit Gomez, then fled the scene. As a result of the collision, Gomez succumbed to fatal injuries.
Police say they located what they believe was the Chevy involved in the accident. They arrested the driver of that vehicle, identified as a 19-year-old, for alleged intoxication manslaughter. There were no other confirmed charges, and additional details about the crash are unavailable at this time.
