How Did This Accident Occur?
With late night single-vehicle car accidents, people often jump to things like distracted driving, unsafe speeds, and fatigue as possible factors. Frankly, those are the most common, and I’d expect any accident investigator to start looking there. However, the problem is when investigations end there, as well.
It might surprise folks how often authorities only consider the surface-level information after a crash and fail to look into less common possible factors. For example, has anyone inspected the pickup for potential defects? That can take a lot of effort using the right tools and training to properly rule out. But if that’s not a high priority for officials, it may not happen unless independent accident reconstructionists step in.
These kinds of oversights are unfortunately, common, which is why it’s often best that victims and families stay vigilant with the official investigations. If they feel their side of the story is being represented fairly, then that generally means authorities did a good job on their own. If they feel important information is being overlooked, then maybe independent investigations would reveal new details.
