Hunt County, TX — March 29, 2024, Joanna Romero was injured due to an alleged drunk driver accident on US Highway 380 at around 10:00 p.m.
Preliminary information available from authorities puts the crash at the intersection US 380 and FM 36, about halfway between Greenville and Farmersville.

According to officials, 35-year-old Joanna Romero was driving a Kia Optima westbound along US Highway 380. At FM 36, it appears a northbound Suzuki sedan failed to yield and entered Romero’s path. The vehicles collided as a result, seriously injuring Romero.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The Suzuki driver, reportedly with less serious injuries, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. If that’s true, I have to wonder if this crash is really getting the attention it deserves. Simply put, drunk driving wrecks often involve negligent bars or other alcohol providers, and that’s something authorities can easily overlook.
I’ve handled cases against negligent bars all over Texas, and frankly, authorities don’t often extend their investigations beyond the drunk drivers. There have even been times our firm handed evidence of a bar’s wrongdoing directly to authorities, and they still dropped the ball, meaning we were the only reason they faced consequences at all. It’s just not a high priority for a lot of departments, and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission only has so much manpower to spread around. Predictably, that manpower tends to be focused on the bigger cities.
In these rural areas, then, drunk driving wrecks can be significantly more challenging to properly investigate. Except when victims and families are particularly motivated to seek out all of their options, details can easily slip through the cracks. But hopefully authorities took the time and effort to get the whole story here so no one is let off the hook for their role in a senseless and avoidable crash.
