A 31-year-old man died early Friday morning after his SUV collided with a semi-truck near a truck stop on I-40 and Lakeside in Amarillo. According to the Amarillo Police Department, the crash occurred around 1:01 a.m. as a tractor-trailer was pulling out of the Pilot Travel Center onto Lakeside. A Jeep Liberty, driven by Leonard Franco, allegedly struck the semi as it entered the roadway. Officers who had been responding to a nearby disturbance witnessed the crash and immediately began life-saving efforts, but Franco was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured. Amarillo police are continuing to investigate.
