UPDATE (January 30, 2024): The man who lost his life as a result of this accident has been identified as 42-year-old Victor Smith, of Atascadero.
Bakersfield, CA — January 3, 2024, one person was killed in a truck accident at approximately 3:30 in the morning along Highway 99.
According to authorities, a 43-year-old man was traveling in a northbound Toyota Prius in the vicinity of Highway 119 when the accident took place.
It is allegedly unclear whether the Prius was traveling in the far right lane of the highway or was parked on the right-hand shoulder. However, it has been confirmed that the Prius was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler for as yet unknown reasons. The 43-year-old from the Prius reportedly incurred fatal injuries due to the crash; he was declared deceased at the scene. No other injuries have been reported.
