How Did This Accident Occur?
Officers at the scene of this crash concluded that the Kia driver was the one who caused this head-on collision near Pleasanton, but what if they got it wrong? It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes witness statements or initial assessments of evidence are not wholly accurate. That is why I always warn against making snap judgments about how an accident happened.
It’s not because I think I know more than other people, but after more than three decades of dealing with vehicle accidents I have learned that it is best to wait until all the facts are available before reaching any conclusions. Data from the vehicle’s engine control modules and any available video footage of the crash will provide concrete evidence of how these two vehicles came together on F.M. 3006, if we wait for the investigation to run its course.
Investigators should look into whether a mechanical defect or software issue contributed to the crash, although confirming that may require a forensic examination by a qualified expert. Most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such reviews.
