A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2019 Ford Expedition was heading west on the ramp when it left the road and overturned.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Waller County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

It is not clear at this point why this SUV left the road near Pederson Road. Maybe the driver was distracted or fatigued. Maybe there was an object in the road that caused him to swerve. Maybe the Ford had a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism that caused it to crash.

Authorities should be able to sort out what caused this crash, but it likely will take a deeper probe to determine if the Expedition was designed correctly to withstand a rollover.

Most vehicles are designed to pass the government’s rollover test, rather than actually protect the people inside. Without getting too technical, it’s impossible to know if a design flaw caused this crash to turn fatal without a qualified expert examining the vehicle in a laboratory setting. That level of scrutiny is needed to ensure the victim’s family does not have any lingering questions about this crash.
