Hidalgo County, TX — July 24, 2024, a teenager was injured following an alleged intoxicated driver accident at around 3:35 a.m. on El Jay Drive.
Officials said they were called out to the area of El Jay Drive and Blue Jay Drive, in a residential area near Muniz.

According to investigators, an 18-year-old man was on foot at the time along the north curb. While there, an eastbound Chevy Tahoe driven by another 18-year-old man struck the pedestrian. As a result, the pedestrian was seriously injured. The driver reportedly left the scene, but authorities say they were later arrested.

That driver was recommended charges for intoxication assault after authorities allegedly found the teen had alcohol in their system. If that’s true, it would obviously warrant consequences, but that could include whoever provided the alcohol for the teen driver. Was it an older acquaintance? A family member? Is there a local alcohol provider who knowingly and unlawfully sold alcohol to a teenager? I’ve certainly had plenty of cases against establishments whose long list of transgressions included serving minors. That’s not the sort of thing that should simply slip under the radar when there are multiple possible avenues to ensure any accomplices here are also held accountable.
