How Did This Accident Occur?

With any single-vehicle accident early in the morning, fatigue is going to be the most likely explanation. Driving while tired is deceptively very dangerous, and it’s important to avoid it when possible. That said, I never jump to conclusions after a crash based on what’s common. It’s important for the evidence to speak for itself. There’s no telling when something unusual might happen.

For example, I can’t remember the last time I saw authorities inspect a vehicle for potential defects after a crash. Brake failure, faulty airbags, automatic driving and lane assistance malfunctions, and even tire blowouts can sometimes occur due to issues that began on the assembly line or in the boardroom. But without careful inspections with the right tools from trained professionals, evidence of a defect can easily go overlooked.

That’s why it’s often important for people to follow up with the authorities after a car crash. If it seems they’re looking into all angles—including unlikely possible vehicle defects—that’s a good sign. If not, though, then the crash may need to be in more capable hands.
