Gillespie County, TX — April 4, 2026, Shannon Dodson and Robert Gibson were injured in a car accident at about 10:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 290.

A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck lost control on the rainy highway while heading east and collided with a westbound 2016 Toyota Corolla west of Stonewall.

Toyota driver Shannon Dodson, 32, and passenger Robert Gibson, 35, were seriously injured in the crash, according to the report.

The Tesla driver, a 44-year-old California woman, was cited for speeding after the crash, the report states. She and the 11-year-old girl with her were not injured.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Gillespie County crash at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Lost control is often shorthand for no one know what happened, in my experience. That is OK for initial impressions, but I hope authorities are able to come up with a better explanation for how this crash happened once their investigation is complete.

Investigators likely will pore over evidence from the scene, witness statement, data from the vehicles and any available video footage as they attempt to reconstruct this accident. It remains to be seen the presence of the Cybertruck played an unusual role in the crash. There aren’t that many of those electric trucks on the road, so there’s not much data on Cybertruck crashes yet.
