How Did This Accident Occur?

Usually when I read about a wrong-way accident, there is at least some indication that alcohol is involved, but that isn’t the case here so far. That may mean authorities are looking into other possible causes, like missing signage or a mechanical issue that affected one vehicle’s brakes or steering.

Investigators should be able to piece together how this crash happened once they’ve gone through evidence from the scene, witness statements, data from the vehicles and any available video footage of the crash. An outside expert may be needed if authorities suspect a mechanical problem contributed to the crash, since in my experience most law enforcement agencies don’t have the time or expertise for forensic vehicle examinations.
