Accident Report

March 17, 2026, one person was injured due to a rollover truck accident at approximately 4:45 a.m. along Interstate Highway 85.

According to authorities, one person was traveling in a northbound 18-wheeler hauling a flatbed trailer on I-85 in the vicinity of the Ledford Road bridge when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the truck veered to the right, leaving the roadway and sideswiping a concrete bridge support before overturning, coming to a stop resting on its top. One person who had been entrapped in the wreckage was extricated by emergency personnel. Once freed from the aftermath, they were flown to an area medical facility in order to receive necessary treatment.

Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identity of the victim—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

When it comes to single-truck accidents, it’s easy for people to jump to conclusions and heap the blame directly on the shoulders of the victim. However, I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of single-vehicle truck accidents over the years. I can say, with confidence, that, while driver error is often the cause, it is far from always the cause.

The fact is, we don’t know what was going on in that cab at the time of the accident. But, the accident did take place in the early, pre-dawn hours of the morning. Personally, I would be interested to know a little more about the company with which the truck is affiliated. Are they, perhaps, lax about driver hours? Do they design driving routes and delivery schedules with enough rest time built in? Or are they cutting corners and pressuring drivers to work for longer hours than legal and safe in order to help their bottom line?

Unfortunately, we won’t know for sure until the investigation is complete. Hopefully, the authorities who are in charge of investigating this accident ask the right questions and look in the right places; it’s easy for them to get distracted and have tunnel vision when it comes to the physical evidence at the scene. If they do fail to cover all the bases, then perhaps a third party investigation should be considered.
