How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve been in this line of business for over three decades. In that time, I’ve analyzed my fair share of pedestrian-involved accidents. Many of those were hit-and-run accidents, too. I think it would be a pleasant surprise to many the number of those hit-and-run vehicles and their occupants that actually ended up being solved after thorough investigation. I hope that the authorities in charge of this investigation are giving it the time and effort necessary for it to come to a similar conclusion. In the meantime, there are several questions that I am curious about, as well.

I’m wondering what sort of pedestrian infrastructure there is in that area. Are there sidewalks? What about crosswalks? Also, in regards to the physical environment, is there a sufficient amount of street lighting? Once the vehicle is tracked down, I also think it would be wise to look into whether or not it is equipped with pedestrian detection. If it was, then did it somehow malfunction at the time of the collision?

In the end, it’s up to investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—to get to the bottom of it. I hope they are as thorough and meticulous as they should be in this case. Surface-level investigation just isn’t going to cut it.
