Gainesville, TX — February 20, 2024, Miles Bartek and Lannie Cook were killed following an 18-wheeler accident at around 1:00 a.m. on Interstate 35.
Current information states the accident happened along the northbound lanes of I-35 near the exit for F.M. 51/California Street.
According to officials, 22-year-old Miles Bartek and 19-year-old Lannie Cook were in a Volkswagen Jetta going along the highway. Up ahead, it appears an 18-wheeler was disabled and unoccupied following a previous accident. The Jetta reportedly crashed into the back of the trailer.
As a result of the collision, Bartek and Cook sustained fatal injuries. No other injuries were reported. Authorities did not say if the truck had its lights or emergency lights on, and they made no mention of reflective cones or flares being placed in the roadway.
