Accident Report
April 2, 2026, Miguel Guerra Jr. and four others were injured in a car accident at about 12:15 p.m. along State Highway 21.
According to authorities, 43-year-old Miguel Guerra Jr. was traveling in a southwest bound Ford Mustang on S.H. 21 in the vicinity of the Willis Street intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Mustang was allegedly traveling at unsafe speeds. A collision consequently occurred between the left side of the Mustang and the front-end of a northeast bound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Guerra reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. All four occupants of the Silverado—a 45-year-old man, a 42-year-old man, and a 10-year-old boy and girl—suffered minor injuries, as well, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
When it comes to car accidents where one vehicle was allegedly using unsafe speeds, most people are quick to assume that the driver of the speeding car is to blame. However, I’m not so keen to jump to conclusions like that. I’ve been in this line of business for over thirty years. I’ve seen plenty of cases in that time where the investigation ended up exposing evidence of causes that were not immediately apparent.
To be clear, I’m not trying to insinuate that I know more about this wreck than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, something could have been wrong with the Mustang mechanically that led to its excessive speed. For example, what if it’s throttle was stuck in the open position? When that happens, the engine continues to get additional fuel and air, despite the fact that the driver is not depressing the gas pedal. It can consequently maintain high speeds, or even accelerate, seemingly of its own accord. Brakes, in this situation, tend to be less effective, too, because the engine is working against them.
Hopefully the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get an in-depth vehicle inspection done on the Mustang. That way, any underlying mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the wreck can be brought to light. After all, as he heals from his injuries, Guerra deserves to be given a clear and detailed picture of how the accident actually happened. Vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation that saddle him with all the blame just won’t cut it.
