Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a collision occurred between the front-end of the Maverick and the back-left quarter of a parked an unoccupied Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.

How Did This Accident Occur?
At a glance, it might seem like this accident is a cut-and-dried case of driver error. However, I’ve had the chance to analyze hundreds of single-car accidents over the years. In that time, I’ve seen plenty of cases in which the investigations unearthed evidence of causes that were not immediately apparent. Because of that, I hesitate to jump to conclusions.
Not that I know more about this accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, something could have gone wrong with the Maverick to cause the accident. Something like a steering mechanism issue or tire failure, for example, could have led to the collision with the parked Silverado. An in-depth vehicle inspection done on the Maverick by a trained professional in a laboratory setting would be able to bring to light any mechanical malfunctions, product defects, or design flaws that might otherwise fly under the radar.
Unfortunately, these types of inspections are not routinely done in most car accident investigations, so a special request might have to be made. If the authorities still fail to get one done, a third party investigation can always take that step, instead; that way all the bases are covered. After all, as he heals from this ordeal, Mr. Hess deserves to have a clear and detailed picture of how this accident took place, and why. Vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation that simply saddles him with all the blame won’t cut it.
