How Did This Accident Occur?
Looking at this accident, it’s easy to blame it solely on driver error and move on. After all, it appears on the surface that the authorities have evidence of the Acura speeding, so why look any further, right? Well, I’ve been in this line of business for over thirty years. I’ve seen plenty of cases that appeared one way at first glance, but evidence of underlying factors ended up being unearthed by investigators.
To be clear, I’m not saying I know more than anyone else about this specific accident. Neither am I saying that I don’t think the Acura’s speed was a factor. I just want to point out that there might have been other things at play. What if, for example, the Acura could not stop in time to avoid a collision with the BMW due to brake failure at that critical moment? I’m not saying it’s likely; but neither is it outside of the realm of possiblities.
Hopefully, the authorities get in-depth vehicle inspections done on the vehicles by a team of trained professionals in a laboratory setting. That way any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role in the outcome of this wreck won’t fly under the radar. These types of inspections are not routinely done in most car accident investigations, though, so a special request might have to be made. If the authorities still don’t take that step, then a third party investigation can always do so, instead, just to ensure that nothing slips through the cracks. It never hurts have a second perspective go over things and make sure that all the bases are covered.
