Callahan County, TX — February 13, 2024, Justin Thomas Lehrman was injured following an 18-wheeler accident around 12:20 a.m. on Interstate 20.

Authorities said in preliminary statements that the incident happened on eastbound lanes of the interstate between Baird and Putnam.

According to officials, 36-year-old Justin Thomas Lehrman was in a Dodge Ram 2500 going along I-20. For reasons not confirmed right now, the pickup somehow crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer which was parked along the right shoulder. Due to this, Lehrman sustained apparently serious injuries.

Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

Right now the cause of the crash can’t be confirmed, nor can other details surrounding the accident. For example, I don’t see any information about how the 18-wheeler stopped along the shoulder. Too often, trucks stop on the shoulder for reasons which do not warrant creating such a hazard, fail to fully clear a lane of travel, or otherwise fail to take proper steps to mark the trailer properly with cones or flares to ensure the obstruction is visible.

To be clear, I don’t bring this up because I think it was a factor in this crash. Rather, it’s something that authorities often overlook. As such, it can be a good barometer of how thorough an investigation might be. If authorities didn’t look into something like that, it could mean there are other factors they’re overlooking, as well.
