Angelina County, TX — December 23, 2023, Joshua Cole and Gigi Lopez were injured following a single-vehicle car accident at 10:40 a.m. on F.M. 326.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the crash happened in the area of the F.M. 326 and Highway 103 intersection.
According to officials, Joshua Cole and Gigi Lopez, both 27 at the time, were occupants in a Ford Escape going northbound along the roadway. The vehicle apparently lost control on the wet roadway, and it slid off the left side of the roadway. There, the vehicle hit a culvert and overturned.
As a result of the collision, both Cole and Lopez reportedly sustained serious injuries. There were no other passengers mentioned by authorities. Right now, the exact cause of the crash cannot be confirmed pending investigations.

When it comes to a single-vehicle wreck,, I would probably take even supposedly confirmed information with a grain of salt. It’s one of the most common types of accidents people call me about because authorities will usually just assume the driver did something wrong, and they feel authorities never bothered to give them the benefit of the doubt.
To be clear, it doesn’t take an experienced personal injury attorney to tell anyone that the most common cause of single-vehicle accidents is driver error. I’m not here to suggest otherwise. But there are other possibilities that professional accident reconstructionists tend to rule out which I rarely see authorities even bother considering. Tire blowouts, medical emergencies, road hazards, mechanical defects, animals in the road—even if something isn’t all that likely, failing to consider other possibilities is just asking for something important to slip through the cracks.
So while I would never suggest that I know what happened here, I would be interested to know if authorities did their due diligence here to ensure nothing unusual slipped through the cracks.
