While other details can’t be confirmed right now, it’s always important to be as thorough as possible with single-vehicle wrecks. It might surprise folks how often authorities jump to conclusions or miss important details. I had one case not long ago, for example, where authorities missed a major defect. The victim had been thrown from their vehicle, so authorities just assumed they hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt. Well, with our independent investigations, accident reconstructionists found the seatbelt pretensioner failed due to a defect, meaning the victim was thrown from their seat despite having their seatbelt on.
At the end of the day, authorities don’t always have the training, tools, or motivation to look into things beyond the surface-level details. Maybe they were thorough here, but it wouldn’t be the first time if independent investigations revealed there were other factors at work here that even the driver didn’t know about.
