Corpus Christi, TX — December 8, 2023, Jacob Rogelio Rios and another person were injured after a car accident at around 2:23 a.m. on Highway 358.
According to officials, the chain reaction crash occurred along westbound lanes of the highway in the area of Ayers Street.
It appears the events began after a Cadillac Escalade experienced a tire blowout, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into the barrier. 36-year-old Jacob Rios was in a Chevy Avalanche approaching that scene when the Chevy crashed into a cement truck that was trying to avoid the initial accident. As a result, Rios had incapacitating injuries. The unidentified driver of the Escalade apparently had non-incapacitating injuries.
At this time, no further information can be confirmed.

Frankly, crash investigations can be complex as is without this many vehicles being involved—one being a commercial vehicle, no less. If nothing else, there are so many moving parts and invested parties involved that it’s easy for something important to slip through the cracks unless investigators are giving the accident the attention it deserves. I can only hope authorities have been more thorough than these preliminary statements suggest, because I certainly wouldn’t take what I’m seeing here to be the whole story.
