Accident Report
March 26, 2026, an Illinois man was injured due to a semi-truck accident at around 7:50 p.m. along Interstate 55.
According to initial details from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash took place along northbound lanes of the interstate just south of town.
It appears a 41-year-old Cairo, Illinois, man was in a Ford Explorer going along I-55. An International semi-truck was reportedly “stationary.” The Ford crashed into the back of the semi-truck.
Due to the collision, the Ford driver was seriously injured. No other injuries were reported. At this time, additional details are unavailable.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Authorities saying that the semi-truck here was stationary raises a lot of questions that could make determining how this all happened quite challenging. Was the truck on the shoulder? Was it protruding into a lane of travel? Did it have its lights on? Was it simply stopped due to traffic? Did it breakdown due to maintenance problems? This all is on top of the more obvious questions—was cellphone use a factor? Why couldn’t the Ford driver avoid the stopped truck? Did other drivers pass the truck without issue, or were there close calls before the crash?
These aren’t things a preliminary crash report is likely to touch on. As such, it might take more thorough independent investigations to get answers here. If that’s not something authorities are motivated to do, then it may be up to more thorough independent investigations to finally say how all of this happened and how it could have been avoided.
Did anyone passing through this area see the truck or the aftermath of the crash? If so, share what you saw in the comments.
