Accident Report

April 2, 2026, a Hollister man was killed following an ATV accident at around 12:10 a.m. along Sunset Street.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident happened several miles south of Hollister in a neighborhood area west of US 65.

The exact cause of the crash is unclear at this time. Authorities said that a 60-year-old Hollister man was on a 2017 Polaris Ranger in a parking area. The vehicle somehow lost control and overturned. Due to this, the driver was fatally injured.

There did not appear to be anyone else involved in the crash. Additional details are unavailable.

How Did This Accident Occur?

There are certainly more questions than answers here, and I don’t know anything more about this crash than what’s been reported publicly. It could involve anything from unsafe speeds to a medical condition to brake failure to some other reckless vehicle that then left the scene. My concern is if investigations are being taken seriously enough to sort through all of these possibilities.

Too often, I see authorities treat car accident reconstruction as a low priority. That’s true enough with ordinary cars. When there’s an atypical vehicle involved in a crash, like an ATV, that only brings up more concerns that investigators might not take things seriously or might not have the right tools to examine the vehicle for defects. If authorities have been more thorough with this crash, that would be good to hear. It’s just not something I’d take for granted without seeing those efforts directly.
