Accident Report

Dallas, TX — March 18, 2026, Guillermo Garcia was killed in an alleged drunk driver accident at about 4:15 p.m. on Interstate 20/Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway.

Authorities said a tow truck operator was standing outside his vehicle when he was hit by a 2012 Jeep Compass on westbound I-20 near State Highway Spur 408. He had been helping another vehicle change a flat tire.

The tow truck driver, 66-year-old Guillermo Garcia, died after being transported to a nearby hospital, according to authorities.

The other driver was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter after the crash, authorities said.

Authorities have not released any additional information about the Dallas County crash at this time. The accident is still under investigation.

How Did This Accident Occur?

An arrest is not the same as accountability, especially when alcohol is a factor in a crash, as alleged in this case. If authorities confirm that the driver who allegedly hit the tow truck operator was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash, that raises as often-overlooked question: Where had the driver been drinking?

Under Texas law, alcohol providers are not allowed to serve someone who is obviously intoxicated. If they do, they can be held responsible for any injuries that person causes after leaving the bar or restaurant. I’m not saying that is what happened here, but it is worth investigating so the tow truck driver’s family knows who is responsible for this crash.
