Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
While the exact cause of the crash is unclear, authorities mentioned issues with the vehicle’s tires being a possible factor. Now, that could mean that the tires were worn, or it could mean this is a unique situation involving a defect. The challenge is that authorities rarely have the ability to make that distinction. It takes special tools and particular training to examine a tire for defects, and that’s just not a priority for most departments. If the department handling all of this was prudent, they may have sought out assistance from an independent investigator better equipped to handle this sort of thing. If not, though, they could be missing something important here.
