Mason County, TX — February 23, 2024, Faustino Montellano III was injured following a single-vehicle car accident at around 12:18 a.m. along Highway 29.
Authorities said in their initial statements that the crash happened near the intersection of Highway 29 and Union Road.

It appears that 19-year-old Faustino Montellano III was in a GMC Sierra going westbound along the highway. On a curve in the road, the vehicle ran off-road, and it crashed and overturned along a fenceline. As a result, Montellano had reportedly serious injuries.
Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman
The cause of the crash can’t be confirmed right now, but I hope investigators won’t let that stand—and that they’ll take this situation seriously. After a single-vehicle wreck, it’s easy for them to miss things like mechanical issues, faulty tires or brakes, road defects, manufacturing defects, and other complex issues. But when a teenager is behind the wheel, it’s even more likely authorities will just assume they were being reckless without a second thought. Maybe authorities here were more prudent, but frankly I’ve seen enough inaccurate police reports over the years to know not to hold my breath.
