Montague County, TX — December 15, 2023, Epifanio Rodriguez was killed in a truck accident just before 2:30 in the morning along U.S. Highway 81.
Authorities report that Epifanio Rodrigues—age 59—was traveling in a southbound 18-wheeler with a trailer in tow on U.S. Highway 81 just over a mile north of Stoneburg when the accident took place.
For unknown reasons, the 18-wheeler was unable to safely maintain its lane of travel; it allegedly veered left of center, crossing the northbound lane and shoulder before leaving the roadway all together and crashing into a ditch, a fence, and a tree before entering into a roll and coming to a stop. The trailer reportedly became detached from the cab during incident. Rodriguez sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash; he was declared deceased at the scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation by local authorities. The weather and road conditions in the area at the time were reported to be rainy and wet. There are not currently any additional details available pertaining to this incident.
