Accident Report
March 10, 2026, David Flores lost his life due to a single-car accident at approximately 1:30 p.m. along the Sam Houston Tollway.
According to authorities, 56-year-old David Flores was traveling in a westbound Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on the Sam Houston Tollway at Fallbrook Drive when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, the Silverado was involved in a single-vehicle collision in which it apparently struck a retaining wall.
Flores reportedly sustained fatal injuries over the course of the accident. Additional detail pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Most people would look at this accident and assume that driver error was the cause. Truthfully, that’s a safe bet. Driver error—whether due to distraction, fatigue, impairment, et cetera—plays a role in the majority of car accidents. But over the last three decades, I’ve seen plenty of cases where the investigation turns up evidence of causes that were simply not immediately apparent. Because of that, I’m slow to jump to conclusions.
The fact is, we still know very little about what actually happened in this wreck. Allow me to suggest a hypothetical, though. What if, rather than driver error, the accident was caused by a mechanical malfunction or a product defect—like brake failure or tire blowouts, for example. Hopefully the authorities are being open minded and meticulous in their investigation. If they get an in-depth vehicle inspection done on the pickup, then the trained professional can unveil any issues with it that might otherwise have flown under the radar.
Unfortunately, these types of inspections are not routinely done in most accident investigations. A special request might have to be made. If the authorities still fail to get one done, then a third party investigation can always do so, instead, just to make sure all the bases are covered. That way, the loved ones left behind by Mr. Flores will have a clear, detailed picture of how and why this accident occurred. They certainly deserve that, rather than vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation that places all the blame on the shoulders of the deceased.
