Accident Report
April 16, 2026, Corbin Higgins and another person were injured in a truck accident shortly after 12:15 p.m. along State Loop 1604.
According to authorities, two men—27-year-old Corbin Higgins and a 32-year-old passenger—were traveling in a westbound Kia Sorento on Charles William Anderson Loop at the Spanish Grant Road intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for as yet unknown reasons, a northbound Mack truck entered the intersection at an unsafe time, purportedly failing to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign. A collision consequently occurred between the right side of the truck and the front-end of the Sorento.
Higgins reportedly sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision. The man who had been a passenger in the Sorento suffered minor injuries, as well, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.
How Did This Accident Occur?
I’ve been in this line of business for over three decades. I’ve had the opportunity to analyze hundreds of truck accidents in that time. At first glance, it’s easy to make assumptions about this accident. Due to how much experience I have with accidents like this one, though, I’m slow to jump to conclusions. It’s more prudent to wait for the investigation to be completed and its findings to be publicized.
After all, there is still so much we don’t know about what happened in this accident, aside from the skeletal fact that a truck failed to yield. What the investigators need to get the bottom of is why. Could driver error have been a factor? Sure thing. Truck cabs are like offices on wheels. The driver could have been distracted by any number of things: cell phone use, contact with his dispatch, the radio, a GPS, et cetera. Heck, the accident happened at midday; he could even have been distracted by eating his lunch. Cellphone records should be pulled, in-cab video, if it’s available, should be scrutinized, and the truck’s ECM data should be examined.
On top of that, there is the less likely possibility that an issue with the truck caused the wreck. What if the Mack was suffering from a brake failure? Or maybe the throttle got stuck in the open position? An in-depth vehicle inspection done by a team of trained professionals in a laboratory setting would be able to unearth any underlying mechanical malfunctions or product defects that had a role in the wreck which might otherwise have flown under the radar.
Hopefully the authorities are being as meticulous and openminded in their work here as they should be. If it seems like they might be lacking or shortsighted, though, then a third party investigation can always be called on to take a look, as well. It never hurts to have another perspective to ensure that nothing important slips through the cracks. In the end, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding as to not only how, but why it occurred. That kind of closure and clarity just can’t be provided by surface-level investigation.
