Commentary by Attorney Michael Grossman

With single-vehicle wrecks, the official reports don’t always tell the full story. That’s not me trying to undermine authorities, to be clear. It’s just that I’ve handled countless cases across decades of work where authorities either didn’t have the resources or didn’t have the motivation to do a proper, thorough accident reconstruction. That allows important evidence to slip through the cracks, and that can lead to faulty or incomplete conclusions.

That’s why I always talk about how independent accident reconstructionists can be powerful allies after serious car accidents. By bringing in independent investigators, they can help verify what authorities did and didn’t look into. They might show authorities were thorough and left no stone unturned. But if they instead find there are gaps in the story, steps can be taken to fill in those gaps.
