Accident Report
Odessa, TX — March 19, 2026, Cinthia Gonzalez was injured in a car accident at about 6:40 p.m. on North Grant Avenue/U.S. Highway 385.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2013 Hyundai Sonata allegedly ran a red light while heading north. It collided with a 2015 Toyota Tundra and westbound 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection with 14th Street.
Chevrolet driver Cinthia Gonzalez, 58, was seriously injured in the crash, according to the report, while two young children riding with her suffered minor injuries. An adult passenger was not injured.
Two passengers in the Toyota — a 13-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl — suffered minor injuries, the report states, but the driver was not hurt.
The Hyundai driver was cited for running a red light, according to the report.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Ector County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
Authorities seem to have settled on the Hyundai driver as the one responsible for this crash, but I expect investigators to review traffic camera footage from the intersection of Grant and 14th to confirm that citation was warranted. They also should be able to explain why the Hyundai entered the intersection when it wasn’t supposed to.
Was the timing on the intersection’s traffic signals programmed properly? Was the Hyundai driver distracted because she was on her phone? Did her car have an issue with its brakes?
I’m not posing these possibilities to be difficult, but I’ve seen enough accident investigations over my career to know that every possibility should be given proper consideration so we know we’re ending up with the right answer when all is said and done.
