Accident Report
March 29, 2026, Cesar Ramirez was killed as the result of a truck accident around 5:56 p.m. along Farm-to-Market 149.
Authorities said in preliminary statements that the accident happened at the intersection of FM 149 and Cedar Lane, just east of Highway 90.
According to reports, 55-year-old Cesar Ramirez was on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling westbound along the roadway. A Ford F-450 pulling a trailer was going eastbound. The vehicles somehow crossed paths, and they collided.
Cesar Ramirez reportedly died in the crash. The other driver wasn’t hurt. At this time, additional details remain unconfirmed.
How Did This Accident Occur?
When two vehicles going opposite directions collide, that obviously means someone crossed over the dividing line. The reasons why that can happen, though, vary quite a bit. Was someone trying to make a left turn? Did a tire blow out? Was someone on their phone? Did a medical emergency occur? Did a vehicle lose control due to a defect? Was alcohol a factor? Did one of the drivers swerve to avoid something in the road? Avoidable or unavoidable, common or uncommon, these all deserve attention.
However, my concern is if investigators are being fair to the victim. To be rather blunt, people are more likely to blame motorcyclists after a crash. Regardless of whether or not they have evidence, people just generally see motorcyclists as reckless drivers. I even had a case not long ago where we had to correct police reports which wrongfully blamed a rider for causing a crash they couldn’t actually avoid. Even though it’s an unfair generalization, it’s one that can seriously impact investigations unless steps are taken to specifically call out and avoid that bias.
So, while gathering and preserving evidence is always important, it’s particularly vital when the deck is already stacked against motorcyclists. If nothing else, a victim’s loved ones deserve to know investigators are focused on telling the whole story. Authorities may be able to show they’re leaving their bias at the door and letting the evidence speak for itself. It’s important, though, that families gauge if responses from authorities are adding up. If not, that may be a sign the crash needs another set of eyes looking things over to ensure there are no mistakes or inconsistencies.
