Fort Worth, TX — May 15, 2024, Carina Rivas Reyes and three others were injured after a car accident at around 9:30 p.m. on North Main Street.
According to initial details, the crash took place at the intersection of Main Street (U.S. 287) and East Long Avenue.
Investigators said that 31-year-old Carina Rivas Reyes and two minors were in a Toyota Highlander going northbound on Main Street, and they stopped in a line of vehicles at a red light at Long Avenue. While there, police say that an approaching Mercedes-Benz failed to slow down and crashed into the line of vehicles. Due to the collision, Rivas Reyes had serious injuries, as did the Mercedes-Benz driver. The two minors in Rivas Reyes’s vehicle had reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.

According to authorities, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Potential charges weren’t reported. Authorities also did not say if they looked into where the alleged drunk driver got their alcohol from. Believe it or not, that can make a crash like this a lot more complex.
For example, I handled a case not long ago involving a drunk driver who crashed into a family’s car head-on, nearly killing a young kid. Authorities had charged the drunk driver, but they never found out where the alcohol came from. Thanks to our investigations, though, we found a bar had illegally over-served the drunk driver. Evidence showed servers continued pouring drink after drink despite the fact the man could barely walk, let alone drive. This meant they were open to potential criminal investigations, fines, and liability for the injuries resulting from their patron’s intoxication.
Unfortunately, that sort of situation is all too common. I’ve had hundreds of cases involving drunk drivers, and authorities rarely look into potential negligent alcohol providers on their own. It usually takes independent investigations bringing those accomplices to light before they’re rightly held accountable for their role in the crash. Maybe authorities here have been more thorough, but the current details available right now certainly aren’t reassuring.
