Accident Report

April 3, 2026, two people were injured as the result of a car accident at around 8:12 p.m. along US Highway 87.

According to initial details, the crash happened south of Lubbock at the intersection of US 87 and 194th Street, near Woodrow.

Investigators said that a 53-year-old woman and a 28-year-old man were in a Chevy Silverado going southeast along the highway. A Chrysler was traveling eastbound on 194th when, police say, it ran a stop sign. The vehicles crashed as a result.

Due to the accident, both occupants from the Silverado were seriously injured. Authorities said that the Chrysler driver had been drinking, but potential charges are unclear at this time.

How Did This Accident Occur?

If initial details are accurate, then it’s possible that alcohol was involved here yet wasn’t the primary causal factor. Is that likely? Not really. Across hundreds of accident investigations I’ve been a part of, when alcohol is a factor, it’s almost always the factor. But I always let the evidence do the talking. So, could it be this happened due to something like distracted driving? Sure. Could it be something highly unusual like brake failure? Absolutely. That’s what investigations are supposed to sort out.

Too often, people see “alcohol,” and that’s the end of the story for them. Hopefully, though, authorities have been more thorough than that. Because despite hundreds of accidents where the common explanation was the correct one, there are always those exceptions where the common explanation was a red herring. It’s important investigations can catch that and ensure that blame lies exactly where it’s supposed to. That’s best for accountability’s sake, and it’s best for getting folks a proper resolution after a serious accident, as well.
