Folks tend to think it’s easy enough coming to conclusions after single-vehicle wrecks. But the reality is that they’re often seen as low priority for authorities, and that alone can present a significant challenge for the victims and families involved.
To put that challenge into perspective, single-vehicle wrecks make up a significant portion of the kinds of crashes people call our firm about. It’s staggering how many complaints we hear of authorities blaming someone without considering other possibilities, failing to catch something important, or simply moving on without actually finishing the investigations. Why does this happen?
At the end of the day, authorities have to work with what they have. If the politicians above them don’t provide the resources needed for more dedicated accident reconstruction capabilities, authorities will end up missing important details. Those details, then, naturally slip through the cracks unless there happens to be independent investigators there to fill in the gaps.
To be clear, there could be ample information behind the scenes authorities have that show they took this crash seriously and left no stone unturned. But if there are signs authorities might not be telling the whole story, a closer look might show they’re missing something.
