How Did This Accident Occur?

There’s sometimes confusion about how bicycle accidents occur. Unofficially, bicycles are put in this gray area between pedestrian and vehicle, while legally they’re expected to follow the rules of the road and to be treated like any other car by drivers. But let’s put all that aside and look at things more simply. Ultimately, it’s important to know where the cyclist was, how visible they were, and how the accident could have been avoided.

Was this a situation where a rider tried to cross the middle of the road? Were they going the right direction in a lane of travel with flashing lights and reflective clothing? Was this an unusual situation of the driver or the rider losing control due to factors they couldn’t avoid? It’s important these questions get answers. That can help bypass a lot of unnecessary confusion and get down to brass tacks. If there was a way this all could have been avoided, who, if anyone, was responsible for avoiding it? That’s up to the evidence to say for sure.
