How Did This Accident Occur?
It would be tempting for most people to assume this accident was caused by driver error, purely based on the fact that it only involved one vehicle and happened in the middle of the night. I’ve been in this line of business for over three decades, though. I’ve seen plenty of similar cases over the years where evidence of less likely causes was unearthed by the investigations. That is why I hesitate to jump to conclusions, no matter how things appear on the surface.
That’s not to say I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, something could have gone wrong with the Chevrolet itself to cause the accident. On top of that, there is the fact that the vehicle overturned. Most people don’t realize this, but the rollover tests that car manufacturers are required to pass don’t actually do a good job of simulating real-world scenarios. I would be interested to know whether or not a design flaw with the Trailblazer contributed to the fact that it overturned. After all, the victim’s injuries might not have ended up being so severe had the vehicle managed to remain safely upright.
Hopefully, investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get an in-depth vehicle inspection done by a professional in a laboratory setting. That way, any mechanical malfunctions, product defects, or design flaws that played a role in this wreck will be brought to light, rather than flying under the radar. In the end, the victim deserves real answers backed by solid facts. He certainly does not need vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation; especially when that sort of work conveniently saddles him with all the blame.
