Accident Report
Ellis County, TX — April 3, 2026, Beatriz Ibarra was killed and another person was injured in a suspected drunk driver accident at about 9:40 p.m. on F.M. 660.
A preliminary accident report indicates that a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox was heading southeast when it collided with a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox that had stopped to make a left turn into a private driveway.
The driver of the newer SUV, 66-year-old Beatriz Ibarra, died from injuries suffered in the crash east of Ferris, according to the report. Her passenger was seriously injured in the crash.
The other driver, who also suffered serious injuries, reportedly had been drinking before the crash, the report states
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Ellis County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
If authorities can prove the driver of the 2017 Chevrolet was intoxicated, this crash warrants a different investigation than your run-of-the-mill car accident. Authorities will reconstruct this crash to determine how and why it happened, but they should also look into where the driver had been drinking before the accident.
If he was served at a bar or restaurant while he was obviously intoxicated, that alcohol provider could share responsibility under Texas law for any injuries that he caused after he decided to get behind the wheel.
Unfortunately, in my experience most law enforcement agencies don’t dig that deep into alcohol-related crashes, leaving families to turn to independent investigators to find answers.
