How Did This Accident Occur?
At first glance, it might be tempting for some to assume this to be an open-and-shut case of driver error. Statistically speaking, that would be a safe bet; human error does play a role in the majority of car accidents. But I’ve been in this line of business of over three decades. In that time, I’ve seen plenty of cases that appeared on the surface to have been caused by one thing, but evidence of less likely causes ended up being unearthed by the investigations. Because of that, I’m slow to jump to conclusions.
That’s not to say I know more about this specific accident than anyone else outside of the investigation. I just want to point out that, hypothetically, the Honda’s lane deviation could have been caused by something like tire failure or a steering mechanism issue. An in-depth vehicle inspection would be able to bright to light any mechanical malfunctions or product defects that played a role the might otherwise have flown under the radar.
Hopefully, investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—get one done. After all, the people affected by this accident deserve to be given a clear and detailed understanding of not only how it occurred, but why. They certainly don’t need vague assumptions based on surface-level investigation that conveniently lay all the blame at the victim’s feet.
