Accident Report

May 3, 2026, an adult was injured and a toddler lost her life due to a car accident just before 10:00 p.m. along Lamar Boulevard.

According to authorities, three people—two adults and a two-year-old girl—were traveling in an SUV on Lamar Boulevard in the vicinity of the Menchaca Boulevard intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, a collisions occurred between the SUV and a pickup truck occupied by a 30-year-old man.

The two passengers in the SUV reportedly sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local medical facility by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. However, the little girl was ultimately unable to overcome the severity of her injuries, having there been declared deceased.

Reports state that the man from the pickup truck was taken into police and authorities have recommended charges against him. Those charges were specified in later reports as Intoxication Assault and Intoxication Manslaughter.

Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

According to reports that were released more recently, the person who had been behind the wheel of the pickup truck is facing charges connected to his alleged intoxication. What I’m hoping is that the authorities who are in charge of this investigation do not get tunnel vision and focus their efforts solely at the crash site. Considering the fact that the man was intoxicated, it is highly likely that decisions made well before the accident actually occurred played a direct role in its outcome.

After three decades in this line of business, the first thing I want to know is what intoxicant the pickup driver had been using? If he were under the influence of drugs or some other illegal substance, then that is one thing. However, if he had been under the influence of alcohol, then that leads me to a follow up question: where had he been doing his drinking?

You might be wondering why the heck that even matters? Allow me to explain. If he was drinking at an establishment that sells alcohol—such as a bar or a restaurant—then there is a possibility that he was overserved. If that is true, then the person(s) who made the decision to continue serving him even after he was obviously intoxicated hold(s) a portion or the responsibility for the wreck that he ended up causing. Luckily, Texas has a tool called Dram Shop Law; It allows for establishments to be held accountable for their role in accidents where someone is hurt that were caused by customers they overserved.

To be clear, I’m not trying to mitigate the weight of the decision that the driver made to get behind the wheel of that pickup truck when he clearly shouldn’t have. It’s just that there could very well be other people whose decisions played a major part in this wreck. I truly hope that investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—are thorough and openminded enough to pull back the layers of this accident and identify every person had a hand in its outcome.
