El Paso, TX — December 17, 2023, Alexander Ortiz was killed and Martin Medina Jr. was injured in a truck accident shortly after 2:45 a.m. along I.H. 20.
According to reports, Alexander Ortiz and Martin Medina Jr.—both age 31—were traveling in an eastbound Nissan Versa on Interstate Highway 10 in the vicinity east of Executive Center when the accident took place.
Officials indicate that, for reasons yet to be confirmed, the Nissan allegedly collided with the back left corner of the trailer of an 18-wheeler which had been parked in the eastbound shoulder of the highway. Ortiz reportedly lost his life as a result of the crash, while Medina sustained suspected severe injuries. He was transported to a local medical facility in order to receive immediate treatment. No other injuries have been reported.
Authorities have recommended charges of driving while intoxicated against Medina. There are not currently any additional details available pertaining to this incident. The investigation is currently ongoing.
