How Did This Accident Occur?

Most people who look at this accident will believe it to be a simple matter of finding out which party had the right-of-way at the time of the accident. That’s certainly part of it. But I’ve analyzed hundreds of pedestrian-involved car accidents over the last three decades. I’ve come to understand that there are often a lot more factors than just the right-of-way.

There are a few things I would be interested to know. Could it be possible that the traffic light gave contradicting signals? They are great tools, but they are not infallible. What was the state of the people who were involved. Were either of the distracted, fatigued, or impaired in any way? What about the vehicle itself? Were its lights working properly? Was it equipped with pedestrian detection that somehow malfunctioned? Did it experience brake failure? I could go on and on.

Hopefully the investigators—whether the authorities or a third party—are putting in the necessary time and effort to get to the bottom of it. What do you think about this accident? Feel free to leave me a comment below letting me know your thoughts.
