How Did This Accident Occur?
In my experience, when two vehicles going the same direction on a highway collide, it’s because someone was on their phone or going at unsafe speeds. I can’t say if that happened here, and I certainly won’t be jumping to conclusions without any sort of evidence. In fact, I’d discourage everyone from speculating unless there’s been a thorough investigation to rule out other possible (if less common) factors. There’s no telling when something unusual might lead to a seemingly straight-forward crash.
For example, I recall a crash I was following a while back where a driver lost their life after crashing into an 18-wheeler on a dark highway. Everyone I saw talking about the crash just assumed the driver was on his phone. Nine times out of ten, they would have been right, but that crash happened to be the exception. Weeks after initial reports, further investigations revealed the 18-wheeler had actually merged from the shoulder without its lights on. The trailer would have been all but invisible when the crash happened.
Just imagine how many people read about that crash and blamed the driver for something he actually had no control over. This happens more than people might think. The difference is the public doesn’t always get to hear the truth. That’s why I always caution against jumping to conclusions after any fatal accident. Name some unusual, unavoidable circumstances, and chances are I’ve handled a case where that happened.
Maybe something equally unusual happened here, or maybe this crash involved ordinary, common factors. The point is that the family deserves hear the facts, not a bunch of people rushing to conclusions because they want to be the first one to say, “I told you so.” Whether it’s through the authorities or through independent investigations, it’s up to the evidence to say what happened here.
If any witnesses want to share more information than what’s already public, they’re welcome to.
