Accident Report

February 28, 2026, Adela Suarez Villa and two others were killed and two were injured in an alleged drunk driver accident just before 8:15 p.m. on U.S. Highway 190.

According to authorities four people—41-year-old Adela Suarez Villa, a12-year-old girl, and two boys ages 14 and 9—were traveling in a northeast bound Lincoln Corsair on U.S. Highway 190 in the vicinity east of the County Road 86 intersection when the accident took place. Officials indicate that a southwest bound Lexus occupied by a 45-year-old man was driving on the wrong side of the road. A head-on collision consequently occurred between the two vehicles.

The man who had been behind the wheel of the Lexus—who had allegedly been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident—passed away at the scene. Villa and the 14-year-old boy suffered critical injuries, and the other two children sustained minor injuries. All four were transported to area medical facilities by EMS in order to receive necessary treatment. However, Villa and the 14-year-old were ultimately unable to overcome the severity of their injuries, having later been declared deceased.

Additional details pertaining to this incident are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

I’ve been in this line of work for over thirty years. I’ve seen, in that time, how the loved ones affected by accidents like this one yearn for answers and accountability. Hopefully, the authorities who are in charge of this investigation are being thorough enough in their work to look beyond the physical scene of the crash to figure out where the man who had been driving the Lexus had been drinking.

You might very well be wondering why on earth that might even matter? Well, if the man had been drinking at a private residence, then that is one thing. However, if he had been drinking at an establishment that sells alcohol—such as a restaurant or a bar—then that is a wholly different matter. Why? Because of the possibility that he was overserved. If someone made the decision to continue serving him drinks even after he was already obviously intoxicated, then they hold a portion of the responsibility for the outcome of the accident he caused.

Fortunately, Texas has something called Dram Shop Law. It allows for establishments that overserve customers to be held accountable for the role they play in accidents that their overserved customers cause which end up hurting someone. Let’s hope that investigators in this case—whether the authorities or a third party—get to the bottom of it. After all, the people affected by this wreck deserve to see everyone who played a role in its outcome held accountable.
