What Caused the Head-On Collision on Texas 359 in Laredo?

Authorities continue to investigate a fatal collision that occurred on May 24 near U.S. 83 and the Texas 359 Direct Connector in Laredo. According to reports, a Ford Mustang heading east on Texas 359 crossed the median and collided head-on with a Chevy Silverado. The Mustang caught fire following the impact. The driver of the Mustang, identified as 19-year-old Jose Alfredo Rodriguez-Covarrubias, and a passenger in the Silverado, 81-year-old Roberto Zavala, were both airlifted in critical condition to a San Antonio hospital. Zavala later died due to his injuries. The Silverado’s driver, 61-year-old Gustavo Garcia, was also injured. As of now, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
