Accident Report
Port Arthur, TX — May 22, 2026, Zethaniah Randall was killed in a car accident at about 3:30 a.m. on the access road for State Highway 73.
A preliminary accident report indicates that an eastbound 2017 Ford Explorer hit a pedestrian north of 9th Avenue.
The pedestrian, 27-year-old Zethaniah Roderick Randall, died from injuries suffered in the crash, according to the report.
The woman driving the Ford was not injured, the report states.
Authorities have not released any additional information about the Jefferson County crash at this time.
How Did This Accident Occur?
It’s not clear at this point if the pedestrian was walking along the road or trying to cross it. Was the area well lit? Did any other vehicles manage to avoid a collision? Was the Ford driver distracted or fatigued? Did the SUV have a problem with its brakes or steering mechanism? Authorities should consider these questions as they investigate this crash.
Physical evidence, witness statements, data from the SUV and any available video footage should help reconstruct this accident, while cell phone records could show what the pedestrian and the Ford driver were doing at the time.
A forensic examination of the Ford may be needed if investigators suspect a mechanical problem contributed to this crash, but it likely will have to be done by an outside expert. Most law enforcement agencies do not have the time or training for such inspections, in my experience.
The investigation should answer any questions that the pedestrian’s family has about this accident.
