Accident Report

September 4, 2026, five people were injured due to a wrong-way car accident at approximately 3:45 a.m. along the Dallas North Tollway.

According to authorities, a man was traveling in a northbound Chevrolet Malibu in the southbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway in the vicinity south of Northwest Highway when the accident took place. Officials indicate that, due to the wrong-way situation, a collision occurred between the Malibu and two southbound vehicles: an Acura TSX occupied by a 26-year-old man, a 21-year-old woman, and a 1-year-old girl, as well as a Honda Accord occupied by a 36-year-old man.

Two people—the woman from the Acura and the man from the Malibu—reportedly sustained serious injuries over the course of the accident. The other three suffered minor injuries, according to reports. Additional details pertaining to this incident—including the identities of the victims—are not available at this point in time. The investigation is currently ongoing.

How Did This Accident Occur?

Over the last three decades of my career, I’ve had the opportunity to analyze plenty of wrong-way car accidents. Of all the wrong-way car accident investigations that I’ve been a part of, nearly all of them involved someone who was extremely intoxicated. Accidents like this one tend to set off warning bells in my head for the possibility that the wrong-way driver had been overserved at an establishment that sells alcohol—such as a bar or a club, for example. If that does turn out to have happened here, that means that the alcohol provider holds a portion of the responsibility for the outcome of the wreck. You might be wondering, so what? What can be done about it?

That is where Dram Shop Law comes in. It is a lesser-known tool that allows for establishments to be held accountable for the parts they play in accidents caused by their overserved customers in which someone is seriously hurt or killed. To be clear, that does not mitigate the role the wrong-way driver played in making the decision to get behind the wheel of a vehicle in that condition; it simply ensures that everyone who had a hand in the outcome is held accountable.

I want to reiterate: I don’t have more information about this specific accident than is already available to the public. I’m simply stating a hypothetical based on past experience with wrong-way car accidents. Hopefully investigators—whether the authorities or, if need be, a third party—get to the bottom of it.
